Review on Revolution 2020 Love. Corruption. Ambition - Chetan Bhagat

Today, I read Review about Revolution 2020 Love. Corruption. Ambition - Chetan Bhagat on Mouthshut.com – The Consumer Review Website

Revolution 2020 Review:

Better call it ’CORRUPTION 2011’

I had finished reading this book before two weeks and was in the real dilemma, how to review this book? After thinking lot, I have finally penned it down.

This review is my own personal view and most of his fans or Chetan Bhagat himself Disagree with this one. Be free to leave your Comment.

Revolution 2020
Love, Corruption and Ambition.

Title of the book looked promising, but Never judge a book just because of its cover.

Preview-
2 States was the first fiction book I’d ever read and though it was not so enjoyable book, reading chetan bhagat had helped me start reading with the book. Later as I read two of his other book, 5 Point someone and 3 Mistakes of my life, I made my mind to read his new releasing book ‘Revolution 2020’. Its price through flipkart.com was 84 and pre- ordered it 2 months before its release.

Story-
3 Childhood friend:- In the city of Varanasi, Gopal, Aarti, and Raghav grow up from same school to have their career in different field. Raghav’s talent helps him reach IIT at Banaras Hindu University while Gopal, the poor guy goes to kota to prepare and repat the engineering entrance exam again. During these time Aarti and Raghav gets close to each other and fall in love. This brings dispute among Gopal and Raghav.

Raghav interested in journalism more than engineering has an ambition to work against corruption while despite not going to college Gopal turns out to be director of Ganga-tech engineering college. Then rest of story is all about Raghav attempts to fight against corruption and his indirect fight with Gopal.

Yeah, The book seems like a love story too… But if it is actually a love story, I am confused.

And not to forget, the main content of the book… Lots of f**k word included with few other vulgar words

Is this book focused about revolution?

No.
It is not. It never seems like he has stressed on this topic. Only after two-third of book is completed, he tries focusing on the main content while before that it seems he has filled book with umpteen numbers of boring topics just to create a background. Even he lacks with proper idea to conclude this book forgetting the title of book and forgetting if he is writing an improper love story or anything else?

Here he has shown the extreme limit of corruption done to establish a institute and educational system and have brought among the public. From a first job of Building construction to AICTE approvement, Mr Bhagat has shown number of corruptions. Let us look how if this theme will bring some clear reality among the people. He has included corruption done by MLA and his condition after resigning from the post. But he has hardly penned something about called revolution....

So title ’Corruption 2011’ would have been the better than ’Revolution 2020’

RATING: 2/5

Review on Ra One Movie

Today, I read Review about Ra One Movie on Mouthshut.com – The Consumer Review Website

We are in the midst of the most exciting phase of Bollywood. New ideas are being encouraged and investors are not shying away from funding these exciting ventures. Although Bollywood has entered into various new horizons in the last 10 years, the superhero genre was the one that was kind of hitherto untouched, with only Krrish being the sole instance. Superhero films can work wonders and remain in the public memory for long, as proved by many flicks from the West. Hence, expectations were manifold from Ra.One, SRK’s most ambitious film ever. Thankfully, the film has lots and lots of exciting moments where you can’t help but get awed, clap, hoot, whistle and cheer as G.One takes on the baddie Ra.One! However, very unfortunately, the film falters at several places. The soul is missing in several scenes, especially in the 2nd half! More on it later!

The story of the movie: Shekhar Subramaniam (Shah Rukh Khan) is a game developer at Baron Industries. Every kid considers his father as a superhero. But that’s not the case with Shekhar’s son, Prateek (Armaan Verma) who has given up on his father. To impress his son who loves villains more than the heroes, Shekhar decides to come up with a new computer game where the negative character will be more powerful than the positive one. The plans are set into motion. The villain is named Ra.One and the hero G.One! The game seems like a super-success. Unfortunately, all hell breaks loose. Ra.One (Arjun Rampal) comes out of the game and is all set to destroy the Subramaniams! The only way to stop Ra.One would be…G.One! However, in a game where the villain is more powerful than the hero, how will G.One be able to defeat Ra.One?

Ra.One has an outstanding first half! The film begins on a thrilling note and the Sanjay Dutt-Priyanka Chopra sequence adds to the fun! The film moves at neat but swift pace with one of the pluspoints of the film being that the songs don’t act as a roadblock. The story, in fact, keeps on progressing during the songs too. The film reaches a high when Ra.One refuses to toe the command of its programmers and instead jumps from gaming world to real world. From here till the intermission point, it was one helluva ride! Especially the scene where G.One is unveiled! Terrific scene! The intermission comes at a perfect moment and you expect similar or even more exciting sequences to follow in the second half!

Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen! The action scenes were beautifully shot and VFX awestruck but somehow don’t work overall. The much-hyped Rajinikanth sequence begins on a rocking note but ends as a damb squib. In fact, the sequence was totally unnecessary! The entire sequence in Kareena’s Mumbai house were good but sadly not great. The Chammak Challo song was the best part of the hour, especially the twist at this point! Brilliant is the word! The train chase sequence was a first-class idea but unfortunately was shoddily executed. A similar sequence was seen in Robot which was so much better (However, Ra.One hasn’t copied Robot…the Ra.One train scene was shot months before Robot released in October 2010). However, the CST Station sequence astonishes! Hats off to the VFX guys! See it to believe it!

The climax should be the most exciting part of any film. But Ra.One’s finale is just alright. It should had been a little more imaginative as the fight was nothing but 2 extraordinary individuals trying to outwit each other. Secondly, the villain Ra.One should have been a bit more dangerous and scary and the director should have made him seem as the worst creature on the planet. If this was achieved, viewers would have surely felt a high when the good guy G.One eliminates him in the end. Sadly, nothing of that sort happens.

The main cast of the film delivers some great performances. It was a treat to see Shah Rukh Khan on the big screen after a hiatus and like everytime, he gives his hundred percent and comes out with flying colours. Whether it’s the goofy Shekhar or G.One, SRK rocks! However, its unfortunate to see that a film where he invested so much time, money and effort isn’t devoid of flaws. However, SRK need not worry as just 2 months later, we’ll get to see him in Don 2, a film that would be hopefully better and exciting than Ra.One!

Review on Ra One Movie

Today, I read Review about Ra One Movie on Mouthshut.com – The Consumer Review Website

If I had to describe Ra One in one sentence, I’d say you have to see it to believe it. Ra One is the perfect Diwali bonanza for the family. This, I’m saying not with any prejudice because I like Shah Rukh Khan, but rather on the merits of the film. In fact, the film is not about Shah Rukh, but just pure and simple – action! You may think that you have seen action films before, but you ain’t seen nothing yet. Ra One is not about the big grand finale, or the one-two huge action sequences, rather it is a succession of things blowing up one after the other that just demand your attention. First and foremost, the big question does it justify the massive 160 crores budget? Yes, indeed it does. Ra One redefines the action/superhero genre like no other. It is just an out and out action film to give you the adrenalin rush. I pray that Ra One succeeds at the box office because frankly, we need the bar set this high so that the Hindi film industry can scale even bigger heights in the future. One very significant plea to the viewers – please, if possible, do not hesitate to shell out a few extra bucks and see the film in 3D. It will have a considerable impact on your overall viewing experience.

Plot:

The plot of Ra One is a combination of spoofs and homages to the action/superhero genre. Particular films that come to mind are – The Matrix, Terminator 2, Dead or Alive and Iron Man. You can recognize the similarity in the plot devices, but let me assure you, no sequences are rip offs in any way and the originality of the film is preserved. Also, it in no way resembles Robot. In the beginning itself, the stage is set.

We join the story at Barron Industries, where Shahana Goswami tells the audience about the lessening gap between the real and the virtual world and the ability of artificial intelligence to transmit itself from the virtual to the real world through the medium of waves (mobile phones, micro waves, sound signals etc). This plot device is important later on. Shekhar Subramaniam (Shah Rukh Khan) works as a game developer for Barron Industries along with his team -Shahana Goswami and Tom Wu. He is a sloppy Inspector Clouseau kind of fellow who believes in the virtues of goodness that will triumph all evil. He is married to Sonia (Kareena Kapoor) and has a son Prateik. However, his son is suffering from the typical rebellious stage and doesn’t look up to his father as someone he wants to emulate. Prateik is a serial gamer and computer expert (another important plot device used later in the film). Prateik like super villains and cannot understand why the hero must always win as it is ‘boring’ and repetitive.

Review on The Second Choice - Lakshmi Menon

Today, I read Review about The Second Choice - Lakshmi Menon on Mouthshut.com – The Consumer Review Website

There are some books whose thematic structure has so much universal appeal that even if you read or re-read them after a decade (or a longer lapse of time), the stories will still seem as meaningful and contemporary as ever. The book that I am going to review belongs to that category.

The Second Choice is authoress Lakshmi Menon’s first full fledged novel in English. I have known Lakshmi for the past one year and more. She is also the web mistress of www.induswomanwriting.com which is a unique web platform for new writers. I have learnt from her how to encourage fellow-writers and bind them with affection and compassion. Though I have often interacted with Lakshmi on e-mail, my first ever mobile-talk with her happened after getting her book in my hand. The plot of her book is so intriguing that I cannot stop myself from asking her about the inspiration behind this book. But more on that later....

Coming back to Lakshmi. She is a Bangalore based bilingual writer – she writes in English and Malayalam. She has already written three books for children. The Second Choice is her debut novel in English for adult readers.

THE PLOT: The story of the book The Second Choice revolves round two characters - Pavithra and Venu. Pavithra is married to Anand and has a daughter named Anu. Pavithra’s is a love marriage having all the ingredients of the so-called-they-lived-happily-ever-after syndrome. But God acts the spoiler and has a very different plan for Pavithra. Anand suddenly dies of a massive heart attack leaving Pavithra grief stricken saddled with the burden of a child.

After her husband’s untimely death, Pavithra and Anu come to live with Pavithra’s father Narayan Nair who though deeply concerned about his daughter’s future knows very well that she cannot parent Anu all by herself having no skill or qualification to take up a job or any other career. He persuades her to remarry Venu who is a divorcee and has a daughter named Indu.

Venu also has a tragic background. He loves his first wife Soumya dearly but has been forced to give her a divorce. Soumya, by a stroke of ill-luck, has been left completely paralytic after Indu is born. Realizing that she will not be able to lead a normal life hereafter, she insists that Venu gives her a divorce and brings in a new mother for their daughter Indu.

Both Venu and Pavithra are tied to their past. Both are helpless in the hands of fate. Both feel that conjugal love is not meant for them. With this mindset Venu and Pavithra get bound by a marriage of convenience. Venu needs a mother for his child and Pavithra needs fatherly support for her daughter Anu. Will such an arrangement last long? Will Pavithra and Venu eventually find solace in their platonic relationship? Will ever love come knocking at their door? These are the questions which will find answers in the book The Second Choice.

Review on Something Fresh - P.G.Wodehouse

Today, I read Review about Something Fresh - P.G.Wodehouse on Mouthshut.com – The Consumer Review Website

‘Something Fresh’ is not my first tryst with the writing of great comic writer P G Wodehouse. It was, infact, his lesser known work ‘The Essence of Kay’ that I started with, and I almost felt dejected after reading it, infact left it midway. It’s okay okay kind of work and in no way qualified PGW to be the greatest humorist writer as we know him to be. Then, one fine day, in a discussion with Deepak, @deepk27, guided me to the best book with which I should start PGW. ‘Something Fresh’ changed my opinion altogether and now I have no hesitation in calling PGW, The Greatest Humor Writer.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse (PGW) requires no introduction. He is the creator of famous series of Jeevesand Blandings Castle novels and short stories. Loved by all, PGW has his own class of writing which is very witty, very humors and very simple at the same time. God only know, how many people he might have helped in prolonging their lives with his humors writing. In a career spanning close to 70 years of successful writing PGW wrote many novels, short stories, plays, poems, songs and pieces of journalism. He is being named by many to be the greatest and most successful comic writer ever.

ABOUT THE STORY: Lord Emsworth, Earl of Blanding Castle is an absent-minded old man who is looking forward to marry his younger son Hon. Freddie Threepwood (Freddie) to daughter of Preston Peters. Preston Peters, father of Aline, is an American millionaire who after retirement has moved to London. He is a fanatic collector of Scarabs (Egyptian Hieroglyphs). He is suffering from constant dyspepsia that mostly keeps him annoyed. Aline Peters is Mr. Peter’s obedient daughter, who wants to keep her father happy; even if that means eating dull food prescribed, actually, to her father just to inspire him; or to marry the man of his choice though she loves someone else. George Emerson loves Aline truly-deeply-madly and is very determined to marry her, he knows she loves him too but is under the pressure of her father to marry Freddie. Joan Valentine - Aline’s childhood friend and Freddie’s past love interest – has had a hard life and is on lookout for a life changing opportunity. She writes for HOME GOSSIP and hates it and has just formed a friendship with Ashe. Ashe Marson, just like Joan, is a writer but of detective tales of Gridley Quayle and he hates his vocation too. He is also waiting to grab the very first opportunity to make it big in the big bad world. He likes Joan and is on the verge of falling in love with her. Hon. Freddie Threepwood (Freddie), a big fool of a man (but most interesting character in the book alongside Lord Emsworth), is marrying Aline but don’t know why. He thinks Joan still has his love letters, and using them might sue him for the case of Breach-of-promise that may result in broken marriage, so hires greedy R Jones to recover those letters.

Now, one fine day, on a lunch visit to Peters - wherein Mr. Peters’ to show Lord Emsworth his rare collection of scarabs – Lord Emsworth, due to his sheer forgetfulness, helps himself to a rare and valuable Scarab. Now Mr. Peters is under the notion that Lord has stolen the Scarab knowingly, but he can’t claim it openly as it might harm the marriage. So, Mr. Peters declares a prize of thousand pounds to who so ever help him to repossess his Scarab. Ashe and Joan, in their own way, come to know of this fact and take it as the opportunity they have been waiting for so desperately. They both turn up, as imposters at the marriage ceremony in Blanding Castle. George Emerson also finds a way to Blandings but his only determined intent is to win Aline, the DDLJ style (might be the one that inspired Aditya Chopra). R Jones, who somehow comes to know of the 1000 pound deal, is also at Blanding, very secretly, and has a brilliant plan at hand to steal the Scarab.

So, here we are at Blanding’s, on the occasion of engagement ceremony of Freddie and Aline. There are number of imposters, some known and some unknown even to the reader, to lift the precious scarab from the Blanding’s Museum. Here I think, Oh, How I can miss him! Mr. Baxter, the Excellent Rupert Baxter of the Blanding’s! They say ‘Nothing can move in or out of Blanding’s Castle’ without Mr. Baxter knowing of it’. He is the, intelligent, smart secretary of Lord Emsworth who is there to take care of everything in the Castle as if they are his own. He is the real challenge the imposters have to face to get hold of the Scarab.

So, do they succeed, under the very watchful eyes of Mr. Baxter? Will Emerson, who has nothing to do with Scarab business, win his love against all odds. Read ‘Something Fresh’ to get the answers along with an amazing experience filled with laughs, laughs and even more laughs.

Review on Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge

Today, I read Review about Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge on Mouthshut.com – The Consumer Review Website

Ok, this is a COOL film. This is a youth film. This is a modern and a FACEBOOK film. This is a confusion film as well.

Malvika (Tara D’souza) & Preity (Saba
Azad) are room mates, like Vishal (Sadiq Saleem) & Rahul (Nishant Dahiya).   Rahul is a pop singer where Malvika is an aspirant fashion designer. Preity, a photographer with vision and Vishal a writer with brain is always on a fight.    In a concert where Rahul sings for a large audience, Malvika just go crazy on him and go onstage to say she is his fan. Preity gets attracted to Rahul and
when Malvika is almost to reject a fake friendship request in facebook (which was sent by Vishal for he is now crazy in love with Malavika)....oops...are you confused? Never mind.   The two room mates fake the facebook ids and the pop singer and fashion designer meets and somewhat like each other.   Problem begins for the fakers and the story of Mujhse fraaandship Karoge begins.

This is for the new generation, the facebook generation.   Then, the message is little uncool for the newgen as it says talk our heart face to face not facebook to facebook. How mean!   As such there is no big story to call it as a story but the 1 hr 40 minutes or so film is giving you a feel of as in a college. From the beginning till the end the story revolve around the college campus, hotel and parties. Screenplay is very good in the first half where the second half got little unsettled. In this second segment the well defined characters getting shaky in confidence which keeps viewers under confusion.   At one point we may think even to ask ’who loves whom’...and, we come to a stage, yes, somebody loves somebody but still isn’t cool?   Despite such confusions the youth energy moves the film forward and we somewhat likes the movie.

Dialogue writer of the movie need special mention as they are intelligent and witty. Make up artist of Saba gets some rest at work which shows.

RATING: 4/5

Review on GOA

Today, I read Review about GOA on Mouthshut.com – The Consumer Review Website

Read this review if you are interested in Goa because of the above title. These were the four things that attracted me to Goa and my 3 days stay were totally focused on these four basic attractions.

When to visit?

The tariffs of hotels in Goa are divided into three seasons- Off season (June 16 to September 30), Peak season (December 24 to January 1) and Season (for the remaining dates). The off-season is considered off mainly because of the heavy rains. So the best time to visit Goa is in last week of September as you will get the benefits of off-season and less rains or very light drizzling. But remember that it will slightly hot in September. If you want to enjoy to the peak, then visit in November or February.

Remember that the hotel tariff in Goa increases by around 50-100% (even more in some cases) in season.

How to reach?

Goa can be reached by air, train or bus services.

Air- Dabolim Airport is situated near Vasco da Gama, approx. 29kms from Panaji. All major domestic airlines operate to Goa.

Train- There are many trains that depart from major cities of India on daily basis. Margao and Vasco da Gama are the major railway stations of Goa. Taxis are available from the railway station to any part of Goa. Prefer having taxis from prepaid counters.

Road- There are regular buses from nearby states like Maharashtra, Karnataka etc. operated by government operators and private operators. Bus tickets can be booked online through many websites.

It is better if you reach there before 12 noon as most of the hotels have check in time of 12noon, so it will save your one-day.

Where to stay?

It is the most important question that where to stay. There are many places worth staying. But if you are a couple and just going to enjoy the beaches then stay near by any beach. Remember that beachside resorts have very high tariff, mostly higher than 2k in season.

If you want to stay near beach, prefer a place near Calangute beach. It is world famous beach of Goa with most happening activities. But remember you have to walk a lot on the beach if you want to find an aloof corner. You can even walk to Baga beach (just 4kms away) that is less crowded and you can even bargain a sun-bed with snacks or you can pay Rs.50 per hour.

If you want to explore Goa in affordable prices, I would suggest you to stay in any city, as the hotels are available at very cheap rates (less than 1k per night). Check out the official site of GTDC (goa-tourism.com) as they have many hotels spread across the Goa and available at affordable prices. Online reservation facility is available on most of the hotel websites but book in advance as famous beach resorts are always full in season.

How to explore?

You can hire a two-wheeler starting from Rs.250 per day. The price range increases with the type of vehicle- high for a motorcycle and low for scooty etc. You need to carry a valid driving license and you can hire a vehicle from anywhere. They will take double the hire charges as the deposit and its very hassle free and convenient way of transport.

There is public transport available but as a visitor I will not suggest you to opt for that, as there are local crowd in it. If you are in a family, you can even hire a four-wheeler. For individuals or couple, hiring a four-wheeler or three-wheeler is a costly affair, as they will charge as per their wish, not as per kilometers.

The simple and best option (recommended for families) is to go for guided tours conducted by GTDC. GTDC has many tour options like North Goa, South Goa at Rs.200 each. You can check the details at their website and can even book in advance.

Review on Arth - Hindi Movie

Today, I read Review about Arth - Hindi Movie on Mouthshut.com – The Consumer Review Website

Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh has passed away. The world of Ghazals and Shaayari is mourning the sad demise of the one and only Jagjit Singh. Ghazal singing has never been a profession for him. He always took it as the worship of the Lord. His soulmate Chitra stopped singing after the demise of their the only son - Vivek in an accident in 1993 but Jagjit did not stop it. Can a devotee stop worshipping the Almighty in any condition ? No. Hence Jagjit Singh continued, suppressing and trying to forget the grief in his heart.

Jagjit Singh always sung from the heart. And he always chose Ghazals and Nazms of very high literary quality for singing. That’s how he became instrumental in popularizing Ghazals as a form of light music. He sang for Bollywood movies too. The Ghazal, Nazm and songs of Saath Saath (1982) and the immortal love song - Hothon Se Chhoo Lo Tum (Prem Geet - 1981) are a few illustrations. However Mahesh Bhatt’s Arth (1982) is different in the sense that Jagjit Singh not only sang the Ghazals and Nazms but he only composed their music also. The music director of Arth is none other than Jagjit Singh himself. Though he had composed the music of Prem Geet also, Arth is his unique contribution to Bollywood music because in addition to composing the music, he and his soulmate Chitra sang all the Ghazals and Nazms included in the movie and all are invaluable gems for the lovers of music and Shaayari. I pay my tribute to him through review of this movie which was considered quite bold at the time of its release.

Arth (meaning) is the story of extra-marital relationship of Inder (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) and Kavita (Smita Patil). Inder is married to Pooja (Shabaana Azmi). Inder leaves Pooja for the sake of mentally insecure and unstable Kavita but finally Kavita also discards him. Pooja is heartbroken whom Raj (Raj Kiran) tries to console through his love for her. However Pooja decides to search an identity for herself in the world, independent of the support of any male.

Mahesh Bhatt used to direct average movies prior to Arth (Manzilen Aur Bhi Hain, Lahu Ke Do Rang, Vishwasghaat etc.). Arth was a milestone in his directorial career after which he never looked back. He always blew the trumpet that Arth was inspired by his own life-story (Parveen Babi being the abnormal other woman in his life). Whether it has anything to do with his life or not, Arth is an admirable movie. A good story was taken and the climax made the announcement of the true woman-lib, i.e., liberation from the shackles of dependence on men.

Arth boasts of power-packed performances of all the three principal actors - Shabaana Aazmi, Smita Patil and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. I won’t try to show lamp to the sun by saying anything about the leading ladies who were the pillars of the parallel cinema movement of the seventies and the eighties. However I say about Kulbhushan Kharbanda that it is definitely one of the best ever performances of this underrated actor.
